Cedars-Sinai, Redesign Health Launch New Digital Health Startup Builder

On Wednesday, Cedars-Sinai and Redesign Health launched a new innovation center that seeks to build digital health startups from the ground up.

Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai comprises more than 40 hospitals and clinics, with more than 4,500 physicians and nurses. New York City-based Redesign is a company that creates healthcare startups, having spun out more than 60 startups since being founded in 2018.

Together, the two partners seek to build at least a handful of startups over the next few years, said Bardia Nabet, Cedars-Sinai’s associate director of digital strategy and business development.

He noted that these startups will focus on four main areas: care access, personalized medicine, provider workflows and care coordination.

The startup creation process will begin with founder sourcing and concept development, Nabet explained. The hub will then provide these founders access to Cedars-Sinai’s clinical experts and synthetic data platform, as well as Redesign’s business advisors and investor network.

Cedars-Sinai will be the first large-scale customer for the new solutions that emerge from the startups, enabling real-world testing and quick validation, Nabet added.

“We will become the first customer for the solution — so helping to pilot it, implementing it and engaging in research studies to publish in academic journals to validate the solution,” he remarked.

He also pointed out that the innovation center creates a formal internal pathway for clinician-led innovation, with the goal of encouraging staff to become entrepreneurs.

Having access to Redesign’s network of entrepreneurs will help guide clinician innovators as they transition into the venture world, noted Neil Patel, the company’s head of ventures.

“At Redesign, we’ve learned firsthand that successful healthcare innovation isn’t just about good ideas — it’s about execution, market fit and clinical validation. Cedars-Sinai’s deep clinical expertise and commitment to patient care perfectly complement our model,” he declared.

With dozens of startups under its belt, Redesign has established a repeatable process for building successful digital health companies, Patel stated.

By bringing its model to Cedars-Sinai, he said Redesign is looking to transform clinical insights into sustainable, market-ready opportunities that improve patient care.
